Ahhhhh......
Summer meltdown is in full swing these days isn't it? We have had a surprisingly strange summer so far all over. While here in Colorado it is getting closer to normal (still need much more rain) other places seem to be back to normal. Still across the world drought is occurring. Having dealt with two years of drought conditions, I feel badly for those countries where it is happening now. I hope they fair as well as we did.
For those of you on the East coast of the United States and Canada who lost power (probably due to some worker who was cooling off from the heat with a case of big mouth Schmidt's, in the collectible nature bottles of course) I welcome you back to life after the industrial revolution. Where power feeds our day to day lives. You now know what it's like to live how your Grandparents did. The really sad part is that I am fairly certain there were people who had no clue how to survive without their espresso machines and microwave ovens. I hope maybe they learned something so the next time this happens (and yes Virginia, it really will happen again), they will have a clue as to what to do except wander around aimlessly in the dark.
Some may think I am being cruel. Sorry I really don't mean to be except that I recently went thru a similar incident, although it was only for a couple of hours and not 2 + days. I was in the middle of cooking dinner for my daughter and I when the power went out in a 4 block radius. My daughter was quite upset and was curious how we were going to finish cooking dinner. It's a good thing I had talked her into allowing me to cook the burgers out on the grill before the power went out. I finished the whole meal out there and it was kind of nice. We actually got to see a couple of our neighbors and chat with them for a bit. Normally we all would have just gone into our homes and kept to ourselves. I think America as a whole needs to start doing a little more of that. Visit with our neighbors.
Funny thing is that in this day and age, that sounds like work but I think if we did, we would have less crime (or at least more criminals would be caught) than we do now as our neighbors, who would now be our friends, would be watching out for us and vice versa. It's pretty sad that just 30 years ago this was common place.
How things change.
Well that's my rant this time and I don't really know what else to say except,
Wal-Mart, Hire some more damn checkout people!
Still searching for that special someone....
